I only went to one day of Bumbershoot this year. Kim, Gabe and I went down Saturday and had a rollicking good time. The highlight of the day for me was Dave Eggers, Sarah Vowell, Daniel Handler (Lemony Snicket), Mike Doughty and the Transatlantic Orchestra (Death Cab for Cutie in disguise name) in a Benefit for 826 Seattle. There’s a good round up of the happenings at Metroblogging Seattle along with some video of Death Cab, Mike Doughty, and Handler performing Duran Duran’s “Hungry Like a Wolf”.
I also like the short films. The first thing we did was go to Saturday morning cartoons, a bunch of animation shorts, including the really funny, Pixaresque film Gopher Broke.
We didn’t get to see any comedy this year because it was WAY too long a line. We saw an improv group called Girl on Girl Action, but I didn’t think they were funny at all.
Perhaps it’s just that I wasn’t in the mood to be around a lot of people all weekend this year, but I think Bumbershoot is becoming more crowded – overly crowded. Pretty soon, I’ll be saying:
Nobody goes there anymore; it’s too crowded.”
